So your company has video. Good for you. What are you doing with it?
Let me guess, you have it on a hard drive or a DVD, and you showed it to all your friends and your mother (who was very proud of you, yes she was….). And, then you put it on the Youtubes… and, well…
nothing.
Nobody saw your video. Nobody commented on your video, except your mother, and that weird friend who comments on everything by referring to his or someone else’s genitals. Trust me when I say, that guy is not a friend.
Basically, that video didn’t do anything for you or your company right? Why? Because nobody knew where to look. And why should they? Did you tell them where it was hiding? I bet you didn’t.
In this game it’s all about eyeballs and how to get those glassy orbs to land on your page and purchase your products and services. People move faster on the internet then they do on the interstate, and if one shiny thing doesn’t catch their attention another will. Wait, what’s that over there…
Think about it this way: If a video doesn’t load fast enough, POW! Viewers gone! If a video is boring or too long, BLAM! Viewers gone! Not a enough viable information, KABLEWY! Viewers gone!
The number of people using Youtube and other video services has grown into the hundreds of millions, and simply being present isn’t enough. You need to sell yourself. Even if you have a company promoting your image, managing your brand and placing your ads, you as a business owner/salesperson need to Rock Your Video! Blog it, tweet it, start a revolution, heck, start an evolution… Just, sell your commercials to your customers! “Say what Willis?” That’s right, you need to sell your ‘image’ to your clients to develop a following, which will lead to a larger following, and more clients. Attention begets attention. The hyperactive kid with the candy bar, stapling paper mache wings to the class hamster gets a lot more attention than the placed kid in the corner sucking on gerbil droppings. Make yourself known, and thus be known.
So, how do you do that?
• Ask for feedback and ideas for future videos from your current clientele. People like to know that their opinion matters, and by using their ideas you provide proof that you listen and care. And that is worth a small fortune in the currency of customer relations.
• Better yet, ask your clients to submit fun and creative ways that they use your product or service (Be warned, without a strict criteria or a way to filter user submitted content, someone will eventually do or say something offensive to or about you and your company. If you can use a content delivery system, [like the one we can help you set up and manage] so that you can remove unwanted viewer postings/content, all the better).
• Hold simple contests for viewers, rewarding them if they tweet/blog about your video.
• Address clients directly in your weekly vlog, letting them know you’re listening and telling them about exciting events in your company. It’s crazy how well this kind of event works. People love hearing their name in a public forum, especially when they didn’t have to spend 10 weeks on a lame island with androgynous pygmies and ex-starlets eating guano. What? I have like three pygmy friends.
• Most importantly, be consistent. Once you start posting videos on your website or Youtube channel, keep it up. Longevity and consistency will help you garner the trust of the internet community. You have to remember that the web used to feed into the fads of fickle socially awkward computer geeks who wanted nothing more than to see a chipmunk play the piano while playfully flipping kernels of popcorn in tiny fuzzy paws.
• Lastly, enjoy creating the videos you make, and create videos you enjoy making. If you like it, more than likely others will as well.
As you all run out to tell your clients and the people of the interwebs about your videos(or future videos - hook a dude up!), remember that quality outsells quantity. Women especially are looking for professionally produced videos online, and a quality video can add a lot of mileage to your content.
P.S. - a great company, like ours, can help you develop an even greater strategy for getting your video in front of more viewers.
